CONSTRUCTION & ENGINEERING

ISO certification for construction & engineering

Connect project requirements with site delivery.
Project handovers, subcontractors and changing site conditions. Explore relevant standards and the scope information to prepare for EQRM.

ACTIVITIES TO DEFINE

01

Design and build

02

Installation and maintenance

03

Project management

Illustrative activity groups. The agreed scope describes the actual organization and work assessed.

YOUR OPERATING CONTEXT

Start with your actual activities.

A construction or engineering organization may manage permanent offices, temporary project sites, subcontractors and changing client requirements. A certification scope should make clear which of those activities belong to the applicant’s management system.
Start by distinguishing design, procurement, construction, installation, project management and maintenance. The organization may perform some activities itself and control others through suppliers. Explain how project requirements are handed over, how changes are authorized and how site teams receive the information they need.

A DEFINED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Make the boundary clear.

Identify the organization, activities and locations to be assessed. Explain interfaces with customers, suppliers and shared functions.

STANDARDS TO CONSIDER

Match the standard to the management need.

Use these subjects as a starting point for your enquiry. Each standard has its own requirements and may have a different scope.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

ISO 9001

Customer requirements, delivery controls and improvement.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

ISO 14001

Environmental aspects and operational responsibilities.

WORKPLACE HEALTH & SAFETY

ISO 45001

Work-related risks, participation and operating controls.

ANTI-BRIBERY

ISO 37001

Bribery risks, due diligence and reporting arrangements.
Choose standards that align with your activities, objectives and operating sites.

SCOPE IN PRACTICE

Follow the responsibilities through the operation.

A contractor with several active projects should describe how common procedures are applied in different site conditions. The presence of a central manual does not prove that every project is controlled in the same way. The proposed assessment needs enough information about project types, locations and responsibilities to be planned properly.
Illustrative scenario, not an EQRM client case study or a prescribed control programme.

BEFORE YOU ENQUIRE

Bring the information that defines your scope.

01

Permanent offices and temporary project locations.

02

Activities carried out directly and through subcontractors.

03

Quality handover, site safety and environmental interfaces.

04

Client-specific certificate or accreditation requirements.
Add approximate personnel numbers, a complete site list and any existing certificates. Mention planned changes such as new locations, services or operating shifts. These are enquiry prompts, not a complete audit-document checklist.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Construction & engineering: common questions

Answers to common scope and application questions.
Relevant options may include ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 37001. They address different management subjects; select according to your activities and buyer requirements. The list does not make every standard mandatory or confirm availability for every proposed scope.
Only describe the activities and sites actually covered by the certificate and any schedules. Ask for clarification where the wording does not clearly cover the project or activity in question.
Identify the work your organization controls, including design where applicable, procurement, site delivery and handover. Include temporary project locations and explain how shared head-office processes support them.
Explain the work subcontractors perform, who approves them and how project requirements and changes are communicated. Outsourcing an activity does not by itself remove your organization’s responsibility for the delivered work.
The proposed scope, personnel, sites, operating patterns and relevant programme affect assessment planning. Readiness and the response to audit findings also affect timing. Provide this information to request a quotation; there is no universal price or guaranteed completion date.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Let’s discuss your organization.

Tell EQRM about your construction & engineering activities, locations and the standard or customer requirement you are considering. We’ll review the proposed scope and assessment arrangements.
